Anthropic Claude + Model Context Protocol

Can Claude Track Your Job Applications?
Not by Itself, but with GigHQ, Yes

Short answer Not by itself. Claude doesn't keep a structured application tracker between chats. Add GigHQ as a custom connector (https://mcp.gighq.ai/mcp), and Claude can list your applications, log new ones, update their status, flag ones that have gone quiet, and summarize your week. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, including Free (one connector).

What Claude can and can't do on its own

Claude is one of the most capable conversational AI reasoning engines available, but standalone chat sessions have no permanent database of your applications:

Feature / Capability Claude alone Claude + GigHQ
Remembers which jobs you applied to Only within single chat/project session Yes, stored in your GigHQ tracker
Status and stage history Only what you paste in Saved per application in live CRM
Flags applications with no updates No Yes (check_stale_applications)
Weekly pipeline summary Only from pasted data Yes (weekly_job_search_summary)

How it works: Claude + GigHQ over MCP

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard, created by Anthropic (modelcontextprotocol.io), that lets AI apps connect securely to external tools and live data. The official GigHQ MCP server gives Claude specialized tools to read and update your own GigHQ tracker directly from your conversation.

Authentication runs entirely over OAuth 2.0 PKCE: you sign in on GigHQ directly, meaning Claude never sees or stores your password. You remain in full control and can disconnect anytime in Claude's settings or inside GigHQ Account Settings.

How to connect GigHQ to Claude

What you need

  • Any Claude plan: Free, Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. Free accounts can add one custom connector.
  • A free GigHQ account: Sign up for free at app.gighq.ai.

Claude on the web and Claude Desktop (Pro, Max, Free)

1

Go to Customize → Connectors in your Claude dashboard.

2

Click + Add, then choose Add custom connector.

3

Name it "GigHQ" and paste https://mcp.gighq.ai/mcp into the URL field. Click Continue.

4

Review the detected authentication, click Continue, keep the recommended OAuth options, and click Add.

5

Click Connect, sign in to GigHQ in the popup window, and approve access.

6

In a chat, click + → Connectors and switch GigHQ on. Then ask: "Show my recent applications from GigHQ."

Team and Enterprise Plans

An Organization Owner adds it first under Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web, entering the name and URL (https://mcp.gighq.ai/mcp), then clicking Add. Each workspace member then navigates to Customize → Connectors, locates GigHQ, and clicks Connect.

Claude Code (Terminal & CLI)

To connect GigHQ inside Claude Code, run:

claude mcp add --transport http gighq https://mcp.gighq.ai/mcp

Then type /mcp in Claude Code (or run claude mcp login gighq) to authenticate. If you already connected GigHQ on claude.ai with the same subscription, it will appear in /mcp automatically. Refer to Anthropic's Claude Code MCP documentation for additional CLI flags.

Claude Mobile Apps

Anthropic brokers remote custom connectors from its cloud infrastructure for every Claude client, making connectors added on web available across official mobile applications.

Note: You do not need to configure a local claude_desktop_config.json file. Anthropic uses that JSON configuration for local stdio servers only; remote servers like GigHQ connect as cloud custom connectors.
