Eligibility
Am I Eligible?
You likely qualify if:
- Job Loss Through No Fault of Your Own — This means layoffs, business closures, reduction in hours, or being fired for reasons other than misconduct. You may also qualify if you quit for good cause related to work (like dangerous working conditions or sexual harassment).
- Base Period Earnings Requirements — You must have earned wages in at least two quarters of your base period (the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before you filed), AND your total base period wages must equal at least 30 times your calculated Weekly Benefit Amount.
- Minimum Earnings Threshold — You must have earned at least $3,746 during your base period to qualify for benefits.
- Work Authorization — You’re legally authorized to work in the U.S. and can prove it with documents like your Social Security card or employment authorization document.
- Able, Available, and Actively Seeking Work — You must be physically and mentally able to work, available for work, and actively searching for employment each week.
Kansas may deny benefits if you:
- Voluntarily quit your job without good cause attributable to the employer
- Were fired for misconduct or policy violations (like being under the influence, excessive unexcused absences after warnings)
- Refuse suitable employment or fail to meet job search requirements
- Do not register with KANSASWORKS or complete required reemployment activities
- Are involved in a labor dispute/strike as a bargaining unit member
Job Search Requirements Explained
Kansas requires that you perform and document 3 job search activities per week. At least 2 of these activities must be job applications or resume submissions.
Required Activities (at least 2 per week):
- Applying online or in-person for jobs
- Submitting resumes to potential employers
Acceptable Third Activity:
- Browsing job posting websites
- Registering with KANSASWORKS.com
- Networking events and career workshops
- Attending job fairs
- Contacting employers directly about openings
- Taking skills assessments
- Using Workforce Center services
- Resume writing courses
Important: You must maintain a written work search activity log and provide documentation when requested, or your benefits could be delayed or denied.
By the way: GigHQ auto-logs all your job applications and follow-ups for you. You can export this dashboard anytime as proof — no manual logging required.
