Complete Unemployment Guide

Texas Unemployment Benefits
1 in 23 Texans is currently unemployed – you’re not alone.
This guide cuts through the noise and explains exactly who qualifies, how to apply, and what you’re entitled to – without legal mumbo-jumbo.

Eligibility
Am I Eligible?
You likely qualify if:
- You lost your job or had your hours reduced through no fault of your own — this means layoffs, business closures, or being let go without misconduct.
- You earned enough during your base period — usually requiring wages in at least two of the last four quarters.
- You’re able to work, available for work, and actively looking for work every week you claim benefits.
- You’re legally authorized to work in the U.S., and you can prove it with documents like your Social Security card or work visa.
Job Search Requirements Explained
Texas requires that you perform and log 3-5 job search activities per week, depending on the county you live in.
These count as job search activities:
- Applying online or in-person
- Registering with WorkInTexas.com
- Networking, workshops, and career events
- Attending job fairs
- Contacting employers directly
By the way: GigHQ auto-logs all your job applications and follow-ups for you. You can export this dashboard anytime as proof — no manual logging required.
